Screening program for hip dysplasia has been implemented in Maternity Clinic of MC Erebouni. Congenital hip dislocation occurs due to abnormal development of the pelvis and can lead to dislocation of the femoral head. This problem occurs in 6-7 out of 1000 newborns and requires professional intervention.
Early sonographic examination is necessary, since in case of late detection, a disability may be registered. Late-presenting dislocation of the hip is diagnosed after 3 months of age.
For the early detection of hip dislocation, MC Erebouni has purchased a portable ultrasound device of the latest generation, which is used for screening all newborns.
Sonographic examination has a number of advantages: absolute accuracy, no contraindications, and safety.
Every year 20 children in Armenia become disabled due to hip dislocation.
Under this screening program, the neonatologists of MC Erebouni have received special training according to the results of cooperation with the RA Ministry of Health and «Jinishian Memorial Foundation».
