On 4 September 2017 an international conference on cochlear implantation was held in conference hall of one of the presentable hotels of Yerevan – “ Ani hotel plaza”, dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the founding of ENT department of MC Erebouni. ENT department of MC Erebouni was founded in 1992 on the initiative of Professor Harutyun Kushkyan.
Since its founding ,the department has applied modern methods of treatment and diagnosis. In recent years the surgeries on restoring hearing has been carried out in ENT department, which can be considered a unique achievement in this field of medicine. In the surgeries of cochlear implantation , which are carried out in the leading clinics of the world, MC Erebouni has also been involved, which makes it possible to restore hearing or cure hearing loss.
Numerous guests from the near ( Russia, the Ukraine) and far abroad ( USA, Germany, Austria, Macedonia, Iran) made presentations and presented the latest achievements in the field of cochlear implantation. Greetings were made by the rector of YSMU A. Muradyan, honorary chairman of the conference, corresponding -member of IAS of RA, the head of ENT Department of MC Erebouni, Prof. A.K. Shukuryan, MD.

In 2003 the foundations for cooperation between ENT Department of MC Erebouni and University of California (UCLA) in the fields of cochlear implantation were laid. The implementation of this program was facilitated by the chief surgeon of University of California (UCLA) Akira Ishiyama and the Director of the Armenian International Medical Fund Salbi Agarakyan.
The surgeon of University of California (UCLA) Akira Ishiyama, noted that the ENT Department of MC Erebouni headed by prof. A.K. Shukuryan, is one of the advanced, and Armenia is considered the only center of cochlear implantation. The surgeries have been carried out since 2004. In Armenia, cochlear implantation is carried out only by MC Erebouni. To this day more than a hundred surgeries have been carried out. And now, apart from the conference, several surgeries on cochlear implantation were carried out in Erebouni MC.

The doctor-audiologist, leading specialist of the ENT Department of MC Erebouni, A. Martirosyan noted: "MC Erebouni has been cooperating with authoritative medical centers in Russia, Europe and the USA for many years and has enough trained specialists. Today's conference enables us to draw parallels between the beginning of our activity in the field of cochlear implantation and what we have achieved today. I am happy and proud of the progress we have made in this field! "
