New Mitaka MM90 Microscope

12.06.2024

The Otolaryngology Department at Erebuni Medical Center has taken a significant step forward with the introduction of the latest generation Japanese-made Mitaka MM90 microscope. This advanced tool will now be used in various surgical procedures, further enhancing the department's capabilities.

The decision to acquire the Mitaka MM90 was both timely and ambitious, given the center's long-standing involvement in the Cochlear Implantation Program, which has been in place for over two decades. Through this program, many children have regained the ability to hear. Akira Ishiyama, a renowned otolaryngologist and professor at the UCLA University Clinic in California, has been visiting Armenia twice a year to perform surgeries on patients at Erebuni. Despite the department's modern equipment, the addition of this state-of-the-art microscope was considered essential for improving the precision of cochlear implants and other complex ear surgeries.

The introduction of the Mitaka MM90 was made possible through the close cooperation between the Japanese Embassy in Armenia, led by Ambassador Aoki Yutaka, and Salbi Agarakyan, the head of Erebuni Medical Center, alongside the Armenian International Medical Foundation and Professor Akira Ishiyama. Ambassador Yutaka views this as a key milestone in Armenian-Japanese collaboration.

The Mitaka MM90 microscope is a global leader in its class, offering numerous advantages. These include exceptional image quality, ultra-precise control, and unparalleled optical clarity. It is the world’s first microscope capable of zooming up to 22 times without any loss in image quality. Additionally, its unique flexibility allows up to three surgeons to work simultaneously, making it a game-changer in the field of otolaryngology.
