Successful Pregnancy Management After Kidney Transplant at Erebuni Medical Center
A 33-year-old woman, who had previously undergone a kidney transplant, recognized the potential health risks associated with pregnancy and childbirth. From the beginning of her pregnancy, she sought care at Erebuni Medical Center's maternity hospital, under the guidance of Director Andranik Poghosyan. The medical team assured her that they would do everything possible to ensure a successful pregnancy.
Comprehensive laboratory tests and diagnostic assessments were conducted to evaluate all risks. After consultations with specialists, a tailored plan for managing her pregnancy was established. To mitigate kidney-related complications, the expectant mother maintained close communication with the nephrologists at Arabkir Medical Center, where her transplant had occurred, and Erebuni's own nephrologist, Karine Israelyan. Thanks to effective teamwork and the center's high level of expertise, the pregnancy was extended to 30 weeks, at which point a cesarean section was deemed necessary.
The procedure was conducted by a skilled team that included Director Andranik Poghosyan, obstetrician-gynecologist Margarita Khachatryan, and anesthesiologist-resuscitator Karine Petrosyan.
A baby girl was delivered, weighing 1.65 kg and measuring 40 cm. Due to her premature birth and low birth weight, she was transferred to the neonatal department for specialized care under the supervision of neonatologist Arusyak Ayvazyan. With guidance from Professor Pavel Mazmanyan, head of the department, all necessary measures were taken to ensure the newborn's health and survival.
This case stands out because pregnancy after a kidney transplant can pose serious, even life-threatening, challenges. However, through the diligent efforts of the medical team and the advanced capabilities of Erebuni Medical Center, the pregnancy successfully reached its conclusion, and both mother and baby returned home safely.
