Erebuni Medical Center is home to world-renowned surgeons who perform groundbreaking surgeries in two state-of-the-art operating rooms. Among them are Jaume Macia, Director of the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Service at Sant Pau and Del Mar Hospitals in Barcelona, Gemma Pons, Director of the Microsurgery Department, and Edward Chang, Professor at MD Anderson Cancer Center and the University of Texas. Together, they carry out complex breast reconstruction procedures, a first for Armenia.
Breast reconstruction after mastectomy is a common practice in oncology centers in developed countries, and it’s now available at Erebuni. Using microsurgery, we offer reconstructive procedures that provide a more natural look and feel by utilizing the patient's own tissues. This technique involves using the patient's fat and blood vessels to create a permanent, lifelike breast while minimizing damage to muscle tissue and preserving the body’s natural anatomy.
Our Mammology and Breast Surgery Department performs all types of breast surgeries with a primary focus on breast cancer treatment while preserving the breast, achieving this in over 90% of cases. We conduct approximately 300 surgeries annually, providing comprehensive care to those affected.
The service follows a model adopted by leading global centers, known as the BREAST UNIT, which brings together the expertise to address every aspect of breast health, from diagnosis to complex surgeries.
Each year, Armenia detects 1,000 to 1,300 new cases of breast cancer. At the Erebuni Medical Center, 5,000 women are examined annually using the latest technology, including the Senographe Pristina digital mammogram from Electic. This device offers high-accuracy imaging with minimal radiation exposure, and it even allows for layered mammographic exams using contrast material.
